The Warwickshire Lads

This stirring march was originally composed by Guy Woolfenden as part of his incidental music for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Angela Hewins’ play The Dillen: Memories of a Man of Stratford-upon-Avon. The play, recalling the life of George Hewins (1879-1977), opened at The Other Place, Stratford-upon-Avon on 10^th August 1983 and was a community project involving 200 local people, the Stratford-upon-Avon Wind Band and the professional cast of RSC actors and musicians. Directed by Barry Kyle, The Dillen was performed on stages set up throughout Old Town, along the river Avon, on the bridges and in the fields, with the wind band playing this march and leading the audience forward to each new venue.
