Scores composed by Guy Woolfenden for the Royal Shakespeare Company

This list of RSC productions from 1962-1995, for which Guy Woolfenden composed the music, gives the name of the play, author and director, with the date and venue of the first performance.

The orchestration for this material is not listed as, with some exceptions, these scores are not available for hire. Among the exceptions is, of course, the musical version of The Comedy of Errors, directed by Trevor Nunn, which won the Ivor Novello and Society of West End Theatre Awards for the best British Musical, and has had many productions around the world.

It is our hope to publish Guy Woolfenden’s many beautiful Shakespeare song settings in their original orchestrations. They were mostly written for small wind and percussion ensembles, with the occasional use of strings and harp, and will be added to Ariel Music’s catalogue in due course.

Copies of the scores and band parts have been deposited in the Royal Shakespeare Company archive at the The Shakespeare Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon, where they are accessible to students of theatre music.
